Sports Betting is still new in Iowa. However, it is off to a great start in Iowa in just a few months. Wes Ehrecke has played a key role in making this happen and he recently spilled the secrets of achieving this feat in the State.
Like several other states, Iowa also started sports betting in recent times. However, Iowa is outperforming other states. Iowa became the eleventh state in the United States to legalize the wagering in sports betting. Ehrecke said that there was much opposition from different groups and many major leagues tried to do integrity fees. However, Iowa legislation finally came with subtle effort, said Ehrecke.
Ehrecke said that Iowa had sports betting bill passed than the other states. However, they had some opposition. He said it was intensive, educational and obviously an ongoing process. He added that there were many people who wanted sports betting, but the question was to create a bill that can be highly regulated. Ehrecke further commented and said that they had an edge over others as the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission has been in existence for 30 years. The commission is well respected and had proper standards, proper oversight and there have been framed rules. He was very enthusiastic and said that legislators were comfortable in it. However, all the questions were to be taken on a daily basis and said it was ended very successfully.
Ehrecke also took the question of the future of online betting. Ehrecke said that mobile betting was the first focus. He said that the mobile sports wagering has been doing good now and the authorities need to check how that holds up in the future. He further commented that the casinos who are offering casino and mobile sports wagering are getting more registration from mobile. He informed that for casinos, one needs to walk down to casinos and thus mobile sports wagering is more prominent.
He, however, has not ruled out the iGaming but does not really want to rush into things. He said that he wants to take step by step to the online betting sphere. There has been no broaching about iGaming or similar accepts, he added, but as the game emerges they might take it up for discussions.
Iowa already had casinos and race gaming before online sports betting came up. Even though the legislation came late, but the well-framed structure of the betting might have just worked for the Iowa state as a whole.
