Geoconda Arguello-Kline, the Culinary Union leader, has been appointed to replace Scott Nielson after his term expired as the Director of Las Vegas Stadium Authority (LVSA).

The announcement was made on Monday by Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak. He added that LVSA Chairman Steve Hill would retain his seat while Arguello-Kline will be in the 10-member board. Last December, Arguello had bid for the seat, but the county commission opted to keep Laborers Union boss Tommy White and Caesars Entertainment board member Jan Jones-Blackhurst.

Gov. Sisolak insisted that Arguello-Kline has the leadership, expertise, experience, and understanding needed to run the Nevada gaming services. The Governor believes that Kline Arguello-Kline will enhance the continuity and dynamic representation of the board.

The Las Vegas Stadium is nearing completion, and thus the transition from construction staffing to operational phase is necessary.

In a statement, Arguello-Kline thanked the Governor for recognizing his values and expertise in the hospitality of Stadium as the board director. Last month, the Clark County commission vote for the stadium board left only two females, one white and another African American.

In her protest over the voting, Arguello had the following to say:

“If they wanted to affirm that board members can be racist, sexist and threaten violence on Twitter (like Donald Trump does) and get with it-they have succeeded”, she said in what seemed like an attack against Whites.

In the past, Black workers have sued White’s Laborers Union for what was alleged to be a job site replacement in favor of contractors of other races. According to a 2011 lawsuit, the White called the Black workers “back-stabbers.”

Stadium Events

The Las Vegas Stadium will be home to Raiders starting in August preseason games. According to Casino.org, the domed shaped Stadium on the Las Vegas Strip will also serve as the home of the UNLV football team. The venue is expected to boost gaming and tourism in the region.

Apart from hosting Las Vegas Raiders and UNLV, officials are also looking forward to hosting the Super Bowl games, probably in 2024.
