HeadsUp recently appointed Doug Wilson as President and Chief Executive. The company is headquartered in Calgary. It will launch its media content delivery platforms in January. It is now targeting player acquisition in anticipation of the liberalization of gambling laws in Canada.

HeadsUp said in already talks with two sportsbook software providers and in negotiation with a strategic media partner as a potential merger candidate or acquisition to create market access.

Wilson said that the opportunities in Canada and other markets are encouraging with the sight of the flexibility of government regulation. In November 2020, the Canadian Federal government introduced Bill C-218 to the House of Commons. It was passed by House and Senate would legalize single-game sports wagering within the country’s 10 provinces and three territories.

HeadsUp is looking at growth considering forthcoming legalization and subsequent changes to the criminal code. They are looking towards taking to market platforms in sports betting, into an industry estimated to be over $14bn in Annual Gross Gaming estimated by the Canadian Gaming Association.

The company stopped pursuing the acquisition of Curacao-licensed online gaming business, VIP Entertainment Group.
