In commemoration its golden anniversary, the famed Wigan Casino is getting honored in a unique way. Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls has produced a limited edition tin memorializing the 50th anniversary of the celebrated venue.

The commemorative tin will be showcased on Saturday, October 21, an experience promising a day filled with nostalgia and a journey through Northern Soul history. The display will be held at the Grand Arcade, the very site where the casino once stood on Station Road.

During the event, visitors will have the opportunity to engage with Brian “The Brush” Meadows from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The famous artist will be signing his vintage poster recreations, offering attendees a chance to own a piece of Northern Soul history.

Another must-visit attraction during the commemorative day will be the iconic blue plaque, recognized as a potent symbol of Wigan’s enduring soulful heritage. The plaque serves as a testament to the town’s prominent role in the Northern Soul scene.

In addition to visiting the plaque, music lovers can explore a dedicated Northern Soul section in HMV. This music haven boasts a robust collection of genre tunes for enthusiasts to peruse.

Outside the Grand Arcade, an outdoor photo exhibition near Wetherspoons in Market Place continues to enthrall visitors with images from Wigan Casino’s final night. This visual showcase is aptly designed to transport spectators back into a captivating time of music and culture.

For those seeking to dive deeper into Wigan’s rich history, the Museum of Wigan Life on Library Street is hosting a special exhibition from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The exhibition, in conjunction with an Uncle Joe’s exhibition located upstairs, allow attendees to fully immerse themselves in the roots of this iconic movement while also celebrating Uncle Joe’s 125 years of legacy in Wigan.

A spokesperson for Uncle Joe’s Mint Balls has encouraged the public to not only mark their calendars for October 21, but also share the news and partake in this unforgettable event. They stated, “In Wigan, the heart of Northern Soul, we unite to pay homage to the past and carve out fresh memories for the future.”
