In a joint operation, police in Bangkok apprehended 13 individuals suspected of orchestrating online gambling websites intended for gamblers in Hong Kong and Brazil. The round up took place at a commercial establishment on Soi Sukhumvit 67, purported to be the center of operations for three such websites.
Khlong Tan Police Superintendent Vajirakorn Wongboon detailed that those taken into custody were primarily responsible for running online promotions for these gambling platforms. All apprehended parties now face charges related to initiating and coordinating illegal gambling activities.
Superintendent Wongboon added that further investigations suggest that the suspicious websites were owned by a person hailing from Hong Kong, who engaged the now-accused to manage operations.
In an ongoing crackdown on cybercrime, law enforcement agencies will continue their efforts to uncover and dismantle similar illegal rings, leveraging online platforms to engage in illegal gambling. The indivduals arrested are set to face legal proceedings for their alleged involvement.
