The California Lottery has finalized an extended partnership agreement with global gaming technology leader, International Game Technology PLC (IGT), securing a seven-year extension. The deal sets the stage for a substantial transformation of the state’s lottery experience.

The newly-signed agreement identifies IGT Global Solutions Corporation, a subsidiary of IGT, as the key technology provider for the California Lottery. The collaboration offers a potential additional extension until 2033, alongside the prospect of five separate year-long renewals.

IGT’s innovative cloud-based platform will be integrated into the California Lottery’s operational management tools and applications via IGT’s OMNIA™ lottery solution. This marks a replacement of the existing second-chance platform and ensures a move towards the cloud. By doing so, the California Lottery is looking to boost flexibility, reliability, and the pace of innovation, thereby providing players with a superior gaming experience.

IGT’s chief operating officer, Global Lottery, Jay Gendron, emphasized the capacity of the company’s enhanced second-chance promotions platform to afford the California Lottery immense flexibility in creating enticing promotional drawings and bonus capabilities for its players. He also reiterated the company’s dedication to boosting the California Lottery sales, a move aimed at ultimately benefiting the state’s public school system.

In addition to the tech upgrades, IGT will continue offering comprehensive services to the California Lottery, including maintenance of the central system, communication networks, and supervising over 140,000 point-of-sale hardware across 23,000 retailer locations.

Furthermore, IGT will continue to provide instant-ticket games and services, field services, marketing research capabilities, and call center support, ensuring a seamless gaming experience statewide.

This partnership emphasizes IGT’s global standing as it serves 25 US lotteries, eight of the world’s largest lotteries, and 16 of the top 25 global lotteries. The alliance between IGT and the California Lottery foresees an era where technology merges with entertainment, marking an exciting time for the state’s gaming sector.

Another major expansion in the US gaming industry came when IGT secured an eight-year contract with the Connecticut Lottery Corporation to supply its iLottery gaming system and related accessories. This contract enabled the Connecticut Lottery Corporation to introduce online Keno and draw-oriented lottery games, including popular games like Lotto!, Cash5, Play3 with Wild Ball, and Play4 with Wild Ball.
