Ameristar Casino Hotel – Iowa, United States

The spectacular Ameristar Casino Hotel in Council Bluffs, Iowa stands close to the Missouri River, just across the state line and the waterway from the urban center of Omaha. The tall, multistory building belongs to Pinnacle Entertainment, a large holder of casino and resort properties in eight states. The company owns a majority interest in a race track outside of San Antonio, Texas and employs over 15,000 people nationwide.

Pinnacle Entertainment opened the Ameristar Casino Hotel over 16 years ago. The company has won acclaim both for the extent of gaming available in the casino and for the elegant room and dining accommodations furnished at the associated hotel.

Gaming Facilities

The Ameristar Casino provides the largest selection of electronic gaming machines in the Council Bluff area. It adopted a riverboat gambling theme for the Ameristar, but the 1500 slots and video gaming machines on the 38,500 square foot casino floor include many ultra-modern, popular contemporary software programs. One especially modern feature assists patrons at tax time: Pinnacle Entertainment offers a “mychoice” player’s card that allows card holders to earn points while they play games. People who sign up for this promotion can actually log into a website to review their own gaming activities over the Internet.

In addition to a large variety of traditional and innovative slots and video poker games, the casino provides a number of table games. Offering include Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, and a simple version of Pai Gow Poke called “EZ Pai Gow.” Patrons can gamble for small sums, but there is also a specifically designated High Limits table area where guests sometimes bet up to $5,000.

Every Wednesday, the Ameristar Casino offers promotions, including an opportunity for mychoice card holders to win small jackpots. Tournaments also sometimes occur at the establishment.

One special amenity offered by the Ameristar Casino Hotel often overlooked by other casino providers involves a readily accessible on-site hourly babysitting and nursery room service called Kid’s Quest. It permits parents with children to spend some time at the casino, which by law cannot permit anyone under the age of 21 to access the gaming floor. The facility will care for youngsters ranging in age from six weeks to 12 years old. It offers an indoor playground area, a karaoke stage, Barbieland, a video game area for children and a Technoquest computer camp. Hourly prices for this service depend on the age of the youngster: care for children six weeks to 29 months of age costs $8.00 an hour and for 30 months and above the charge is $7.50 an hour.

Closed on Sunday and Monday, the restaurant serves dinner from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday it remains open an extra hour, until 10 p.m.

Right across from the restaurant, guests can visit the Amerisports Bar. This establishment offers less formality. It occasionally provides live entertainment on stage. There are 35 high definition television sets for sports fans to watch as they consume fare that includes Philly Cheese Steaks, Burgers and Fajitas. On one wall, the sports bar posts the names of patrons who prevailed in the Blackjack Attack Challenge. This event costs $60, unless the participant manages to finish off an entire meal of seven beef patties and toppings served on a marbled rye along with one and a half pounds of waffle fries. If the guest wins the challenge, the meal is free. The few who pass the test obtain a free tee shirt and see their names posted on the Amerisports Wall of Fame.
