The Wynn Everett project has won the casino license in Greater Boston. This license was granted after the Massachusetts Gaming Commission considered another proposal from Mohegan Sun. The vote was 3 to 1 to grant the license to Wynn. The new casino will be located on a plot of land which is an old site of a Monsanto plant.
One interesting aspect about this casino project is there were three years or referendums, debates, and a variety of laws. These were the foundation for the casino gambling law in Massachusetts. However, the Gaming Commission still needs to decide on a license in southeastern Massachusetts. The competition for this license is not as fierce and has resulted in a change in the application deadline. Contenders have until December 1 to submit an application for this license. The Gaming Commission expects applicants who were previously rejected for other licenses will reapply.
A small chance exists that could derail the casino license effort in Massachusetts. Opponents have been able to add a question about repealing the casino law to the November statewide ballot.
