It has been a little over a month since PokerStars launched the largest online poker site on the internet today. In honor of this accomplishment the company held an official welcome extravaganza in New Jersey. With a spirit of cooperation and collaboration a successful live event was held on May 14 that featured PokerStars Pro Jason Somerville at the Resorts Casino Hotel. The event was sponsored by PokerStars and Amaya Inc.brand.

It was a live event that lived up to its promise providing a non-stop agenda of activity throughout the day. Team PokerStars include names like Barry Greenstein, Jen Shahade, Liv Boeree, Jason Somerville, Vanessa Selbst and Chris Moneymaker. All signed autographs and interacted with their fans and got the event started with a lot of enthusiasm. This was a great way to connect personally with fans and to reignite interest in online poker.

Once the meet and greet festivities were over, it was time to move on to the main event. This was the Run It Up Resorts Rumble. Jason Somerville was the host and it featured a $30 buy in no limit, Texas Hold ‘Em event on PokerStarsNJ.com and access was only available for those that were on site at the New Jersey Casino. Those on the outside were also welcome to join the event as well by joining a separate $10 buy-in tournament. The event featured beachside drinks and a wide variety of food and entertainment to at the famous Landshark Bar & Grill. It was a constant day of events and activities and all who came were thoroughly entertained.

The initial success of PokerStars in New Jersey is a great indicator of the success to come. Eric Hollreiser, Vice President of Corporate Communications for Amaya was extremely complimentary of the event and looks forward to building a future relationship with the online poker giant that seems to be taking the lead in the movement forward of the New Jersey online gaming market. It really bodes well for the future of the site and the potential activity it can attract to its online tournaments.
It was also an opportunity for Somerville to connect with fans by streaming live throughout the event on Amazon’s new online video streaming platform called Twitch.

This gave customers a chance to participate in great giveaways while talking to the other pros on the PokerStars Team. Run It Up was truly a unique event that provided unprecedented access to the stars of PokerStars and set a great foundation for future festivals and online competitions. Somerville stated that he had never had so much fun as playing and streaming on PokerStars in New Jersey. Fans can win a ticket in advance in the special Run It Up tournaments or they can purchase tickets as well. The money raised at the New Jersey event went to a great charitable cause, Autism Speaks. They raise awareness and funding for research to prevent and treat autism more effectively. Once a ticket is procured, it entitles the bearer to a wristband which gains the entrance into all events throughout the day.

In the end, the event was definitely a success by PokerStars. They managed to provide an event that combined the unique social portions of the game of poker with several online events and turn it all into a huge party that was enjoyed by all. This type of event might be the new norm, as the PokerStars site begins gaining steam and brings more and more of the online gaming community to their online poker rooms.
