The owners of the Federated Indians of the famous Graton Rancheria finally broke ground on September 02, 2015 on a $175 million mega expansion of the high-end Graton Resort & Casino. The casino is the Bay Area’s most popular gaming and entertainment center. The super expansion will feature an additional 200-guest room resort that also includes a spa, pool area, meeting and convention space. The 342,000-square-foot expansion will expand the facilities at the existing $800 million entertainment and casino facility that opened its doors in November 2013. The complex has a full array of dining, gaming and entertainment facilities.

The mega entertainment joint is located off U.S. Highway 101 at Golf Course Drive, which is found in the West of Rohnert Park, California. The Graton Resort & Casino is the property of the Federated Indians of the Graton Rancheria but is operated and managed by the Station Casinos LLC. The high-end six-story hotel will flawlessly link to the south side of the existing complex that is located near the M.Y. Noodles and Daily Grill restaurants. The facility will feature an array of suites and guest rooms. It will range from typical guest rooms that will occupy over 500 square feet to cozy suites occupying around 2,600 square feet. The entertainment powerhouse will also feature a luxurious bar and lobby, and a plush spa. It will also feature 20,000 square feet of flexible functions and convention area that includes seven separate rooms and pre-function spaces and minor breakout meeting areas. The centerpiece of the new resort will be a stylish pool area that will be used as an extension of the existing hotel lobby. The pool also will offer an outdoor connection to the meeting and convention space.

Construction will start any time following the historic groundbreaking ceremony. The resort is expected to open its doors in the fall of 2016. The expensive expansion will create over 1,000 construction jobs all through the various stages of its development, and it will utilize about 100 California-based firms. The resort extension was designed by the Friedmutter Group while the PENTA Building Group is the general contractor. The revamped resort with all of its new facilities will be added to the existing array of over 130 table games, 3,000 videos, and slot poker games. It will also have a live poker, 8,700-square-foot events area for special events and a dozen bars and restaurants. The restaurants will include Tony’s of North Beach managed by Tony Gemignani, an 11-time World Pizza Champion. The Noodles will be managed by Martin Yan, the renowned chef, Daily Grill, and 630 Park Steakhouse. It will also house a variety of other casual dining alternatives inside the 500-seater bazaar.

Five Tribe long-time members carried out the ceremonial groundbreaking using shiny silver shovels on a huge pile of soil inside the event tent. Afterward, two construction machines were driven in and scooped up the soil to a pile outside. The posh hotel, spa, convention center and swimming pool area encompass the resort section of the famous Graton Resort & Casino. The expansion was planned since the foundation of the casino. Joe Hasson, who is the casino and the complex entertainment center’s general manager, made some announcements. He said that the existing casino that opened doors in November 2013 acted as the revenue engine that required to be fitted before the ultimate resort was built. However, there was strong opposition to the construction of the proposed casino during earlier public hearings. The hearings were conducted in Rohnert Park by the county supervisors’ board. The Tribe agreed to offer a share of its revenue to Rohnert Park and the County to alleviate off-site effects on traffic and infrastructure enhancement around the resort. The resort is located next to Home Depot, Wal-Mart, and several high-class restaurants.

Nothing about the Tribe group, casino or the project has been easy. For critics, the claims were that while the busy complex has brought revenues to the county, there have been issues too. Brad Friedmutter, the Architect, who designed the stylish Graton Resort and Casino, tipped that “You will not know if you are in a casino. He said that customers are going to have a feeling of being in a very high-end hotel.

In just a year, the complex will add another 200-room hotel together with local jobs. Its casino competitor, Chip Worthington has spent two and a half decades fighting the Graton Casino to no avail. An example of the Chip Worthington sabotage effort flopped is that of August 2014. It campaigned for the recall two Rohnert Park council members who endorsed the casino’s $200-million revenue division contract with the city. Hundreds of ardent patrons, who attended the casino’s grand opening in Nov 2013, caused a massive traffic jam on U.S. Highway 101 and the surface roads near Rohnert Park. The traffic deadlock dissipated soon after that as the launching of the casino.
